Diane grew up in Golden, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, in a large family with five children. She graduated from Golden High School and then earned her undergraduate degree with a double major in English and Education from University of Denver. Diane always knew she wanted to be a teacher and so moved to California to work immediately on her master’s degree and a teaching credential at Stanford University.
Diane began her teaching career in 1984 at Newark Junior High in the East Bay before moving to Palo Alto to teach at Gunn High School in 1989. At Gunn, she taught English and Journalism as well as being the director of student activities with responsibility for ASB leadership, student clubs, dances, and annual events including Homecoming, International Week, and Turkey Feast. In 1999, she returned to Stanford to earn a second master’s degree in public policy analysis and an administrative credential. Diane’s first position in administration was at Cupertino High School. Diane comes to Prospect as an experienced principal after serving five years as the principal of Aptos High School in Santa Cruz County.
Diane is married to Steven Burbank, a 5th grade teacher at Rolling Hills Middle School. They are completing the historical renovation of their home in downtown San Jose just in time for its 100th birthday this year. They enjoy sports, gardening, the beach, and Stanford football.
